Description
The day includes a little of the history of traditional furniture making , some ‘classroom’ based introduction to the tools and materials, and then proceeds with the stool building. Each stage of the process is explained and a demonstration of the process provided, followed by guidance and, if required, a little assistance.
As part of the process John will also talk about a few associated topics including the nature and characteristics of wood, appropriate timbers to use, various materials used in different places and times and how to care for your finished piece.

Colin Boyd –
I enjoyed the woodworking course and the help John gave me it was fun and very informative and I am pleased to have the 3 legged stool
Thanks again John

I absolutely loved this workshop! John was a brilliant instructor — knowledgeable, patient, and great fun to work with. I went in with very little woodworking experience and came out with a sturdy rustic stool and a real sense of achievement. The whole process, from picking the materials to the final finish, was hands-on and really rewarding. I’d definitely recommend this course to anyone who wants to try their hand at making their own furniture

It was a pleasure working with John to deliver three excellent courses funded by the Public Health Authority and managed by CRUN.
The feedback from participants was outstanding, and the pride they showed in taking home their beautiful hand-built stools was clear to see. John’s skill, patience, and deep knowledge ensured that everyone was able to build their stools using traditional tools.
He created a warm and friendly atmosphere throughout, with plenty of laughter and craic along the way.
I’m very much looking forward to running more of these courses soon.

No better way to spend a day than fashioning a piece of furniture out of raw timber (Larch and Hazel), using only hand tools, and then taking the fruits of the handiwork home. No surer guide than John through this practical day of discovery. An excellent session.
